Center Saturday

September 7, 2013 by Mary Amoson 2 Comments

Hello y’all!
I hope today finds you relaxing and perhaps enjoying some college football.
Down south, College football is almost a religion. We take our teams pretty seriously.
I am hoping to be attending the UGA game today. Can we say date time with the hubs???
Here is a peek at my weekly work centers from this past week.
I use the border color to help match up my description to the picture.

Yellow- Math- We practiced writing numbers 1-30 using these fun Old Lady sheets. My students have been introduced to number 0-23 since we have been at school for 23 days. This sounds crazy, but you can take handwriting activity, add a colorful background picture and it is instantly more fun!

Orange- Writing- We worked on forming our letters that we have covered this year. My kids are struggling with handwriting hard core. I have a TON of lefties and a TON of “never wrote on a line” as well. I gave them the first letters, then dotted the next set. Students need to form the correct letters at the end using just the initial dot.

Red- Reading- This was a simple Dd letter sort from my Letter Dd Pack. Since we used all these pictures this week in the set, this wasn’t hard for my kids. We are still working on cutting on the lines, making one piece of trash, and using just a dot of glue.

Purple- Phonics- We did another Dd sorting using initial sounds. This one had more difficult pictures, so it was a challenge. My kids had no clue what a dime was! This was something I bought years ago and have used for a long time… it is NOT in my Dd pack.

Blue- Unit- We did a ten frame matching activity to go with the book, There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Books. I printed this onto colored cardstock so each student got a different color. It makes center time (and small groups) run so much smoother since each student has their own color coded version to play. The students have to count the items in the ten frame and match it to the number on the card. This is one game in my Old Lady Books unit which I have to say is awesome. We used it all this week and it was a huge hit.

Green- Unit- We did a sequencing activity for the book, If You Give a Dog a Donut for the letter Dd. We sequenced matching cards on our pocket chart during calendar time so putting the matching cards on this sheet together was no problem.

Have a fantastic weekend!
I will be praying for my Dawgs and then that I can get all the housework and laundry done post game!
