Center Saturday

August 31, 2013 by Mary Amoson 2 Comments

Center Saturday Time.
Here is where I show you and tell you all about my weekly work centers with pictures and words.
Don’t forget to use the border colors on the pictures to match the description with below.
And if you want to know how I run my centers, esp at the beginning of the school year, check out this post here.

Yellow- Math- I use these apple tree accents to practice counting and number identification. I put apple stickers on the top and cut off the tree from the trunks. My students count the apples in the tree and find the matching trunk. I made trees for the numbers 0-10 and 11-20 to challenge those smarty pants kids.

Orange- Handwriting- We practiced writing the sight words we have covered this year. Handwriting is not a strong suit of beginning Kinders, so we work on it little by little. I like giving them the paper with the colored lines and markers to write with.

Red- Reading- This is a versatile sorting mat. I gave my students a mat with two baskets and a bunch of letter apples that we have covered this year. {L, O, C, A} I  asked them to sort the apples any way they wanted to. They could do uppercase and lowercase,  vowels or consonants, and one student did “round letters and straight letters.” This is a part of my An Apple To Play pack.

Purple- Phonics- My kids had to work in groups of 4 to put the apples in ABC order. I made these apples my first year teaching! I cut out all the letters with an exacto knife and glued them down with rubber cement glue, then laminated them. I can’t part with them, but I do have an easier version for you guys to prep and use. This is a part of my An Apple To Play pack.

Blue- Unit- This activity has my kids searching for the lettered apples in the picture. I give them a cross off sheet to double check off the letters as they go. This activity has two versions… capital and lowercase. This is a part of my An Apple To Play pack.

Green- Unit- This is a FUN game I introduced on Monday in small groups called… Alligator CHOMP. I show them how to “Write the Room” with letters, then create a sight word. THEN my students play the game again by themselves. We did this before center time to make sure they understood what we were doing. While my kids were at lunch, I changed the letters and hide the alligators again around the room so they can play it again with a new word.  You can grab this game for free {here.} I made you guys a digital version of my game.

Have a great long weekend y’all!
E got her 2 month shots so we are in for a rough weekend of spoiling her rotten and holding her endlessly… it is a tough job that I think I will enjoy!
