Tech Tuesday

November 26, 2013 by Mary Amoson 3 Comments

 I am always getting asked about the apps I use in my classroom and I am always asking fellow K teachers about the apps they use in their classrooms.
How about some Tech Tuesday love towards handwriting apps?
I strongly feel that any teacher needs to have several handwriting apps to motivate little learners. Why?
They might get bored with just one.
They need LOTS of practice with letter formation.
Apps are FUN and they provide great interactive practice.
Multiple apps give them the choice to practice handwriting, but they feel like they have some imput and control.
These apps are in no particular order…
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/appcrayon/id5041626291. App Crayon {Free}
 They also make a sylus that looks like a crayon so it is pretty cool if you want to try it out.  I heard from another teacher that she loves them.
The app actually looks like this:
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/appcrayon/id504162629
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/letter-quiz-alphabet-tracing/id331177703?mt=82. Letter Quiz {$1.99}
 I really like this app company because I feel the creator is real and really interested in making apps that kids love and that aren’t overdone!
My kids love the Letter Quiz app.

3. LetterSchool App {$2.99}
This app is pretty well known now, but it is so much fun. My students never get tired of this app and they love to work with it.
Here is a look at the app. Once the student creates the letter, an animation takes over.
It is interact.
It is fun.
It makes the player {student} form the letter correctly which every teacher loves.
https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/little-sky-writers/id384466666?mt=8 4. Little Sky Writers {$1.99}
This app gets mixed reviews. I think it is worth looking into. I recently downloaded it, but I haven’t gotten reactions from it from the little loves {students} who have been playing it.
Here is a peek at the screen.
I hope this app list has given you some ideas to look at for your writing app needs.
Did I miss any writing apps you love? Give me some names below and I will def look at them.

    I use and love the "Writing Wizard" app. I got it free but not sure if it is.

    I like Letter School app, and my kids LOVE it! Smarty Pants is also a good one (may be called Smart School). I also have Writing Wizard which I got for free, but I don't think it is free anymore.

    I love Letter School also! A math app that I really love is called Quick Images. The app only cost 99 cents and works so well in helping kids subitize. Thanks for sharing! Glad I stopped by!
