Center Saturday

December 7, 2013 by Mary Amoson Leave a Comment

Hi guys!
I hope you all had a GREAT Thanksgiving Break and even better week back at school.
Sometimes I love coming back from a break to see how many of those little ones actually missed me and missed school. It always seems to be those friends who act like they can’t wait to be home… sleeping in… NOT working hard. Yeah, they come in after being home for 9 day and hug me, tell me all about their adventures in 3 sentences {that scramble and ramble all together}, and then go off to find their friends and catch up with them.
I will take those 3 sentences and those moments ANY TIME I can get them.
Here is an image of my weekly work centers.
{Just as a reminder, my students go to centers for about 30 minutes at the end of the day each day. They have to complete all 6 work centers by the end of the week.}
This week we learned about the letter Uu, the sight word they, 5 senses, and making teen numbers and I introduced identification of the penny and nickel.
https://sharingkindergarten.com/product/letter-pack-big-bundle/ Math- My students filled in their ten frames to create numbers. The sheet was two sided. Some students did both sides while others did only one side. Some of my babies did the numbers less than 10 on their own and needed help the teen numbers. I am glad to report that almost all my kids can create their own teen numbers now. {Letter Uu Pack, it’s part of this bundle.}
In writing, my kids copied the sentences I wrote on this paper. I look the Frog Street Press paper, wrote 4 sentences with a u word and picture clue on them using a yellow marker. After laminating it and cutting it out, my students wrote on top of paper with a dry erase marker. To get checked off this center, they had to READ to me what they wrote.
https://sharingkindergarten.com/product/letter-pack-big-bundle/For our reading center, we worked on reading, sounding out, and writing Uu words. My pack has 12 pictures for my kids to write. Some have short sounds, some have 4 letter words, and some have long vowels. I gave all my students all the sheets and let them choose 8 out of the 12 words they wanted to complete. I was happily surprised to see how many of my kids WANTED to try to write all 12 words.{Letter Uu Pack, it’s part of this bundle}
https://sharingkindergarten.com/product/letter-pack-big-bundle/For phonics, my kids had to match the umbrella to the rain drop and therefore matched initial sound. {I think I am going to have to start practicing final sound soon!!!} The funniest thing is S saw me cutting these out before Thanksgiving and matched them ALL in a matter of minutes. I told my kids at school how fast S was at the matching and challenged them to do it faster. I mean… who wants a 4 year old to beat them!!! {Letter Uu Pack, it’s part of this bundle}
I took this video of S playing with the umbrella and raindrop cards as I was cutting them out.
https://sharingkindergarten.com/product/letter-pack-big-bundle/For unit this week, my kids did a lowercase letter sequencing activity. It really didn’t have anything to do with 5 senses, but this is what they needed practice with, so this is what I gave them. They had to look at the lowercase letters and find the letter that is missing from the middle. They could either write in the missing letter using a dry erase marker or place the correct letter on the baseball in that spot.  {Letter Uu Pack, it’s part of this bundle.}
And as an actual unit activity, we covered our sense of sound on the Monday. So at centers, we did this FUN listneing activity from The Mailbox. I placed 5 items in the film container {who even has these types of containers anymore?} and my students guess which container has which item inside. THEN we check their work. They love it.
 I hope these images gave you some ideas for making centers amazing and FUN in your classroom.
I am off to decorate and clean up my house. It is driving me crazy!!
I also have to start the wrapping process. How many more days until Christmas????
{I am not ready, I am not ready!!!}
