Center Saturday

November 24, 2013 by Mary Amoson Leave a Comment

Hi all! Welcome to Center Saturday.
I am officially off work until December, but man did we have fun this past week!
Here is a glimpse at my weekly work centers as we covered the ch sound, -an family, word you, and Thanksgiving!
For our math center, we used these cards I created to go with the book, I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie. Each side of the object has numbers and the student draws their alligator bites to show which number is larger. To help students know which sets of cards is theirs, I made 4 different sets with different pictures. One set has pies, another turkeys, another cider.
I have also learned to provide little learners with dots to help them create the greater than and less than signs. When I give them the dot, the symbols look so much better. I highly recommend using dots when doing greater than and less than symbols.

For writing, we completed this Write Me Three sheet about Native Americas. I always make my students read to me what they write to make sure they are not just copying down whatever words are on the word walls. Here my kiddo is writing about the things a Native American had.

For our reading center, we completed these picture walls. The color and number words are on the outside. Students have to read the word and draw a line to something in the picture that is that color or that is that number.

In our phonics center, we completed these mouse and cheese matching cards to find initial sound pairs. This is always a big hit. {In fact my own 4 year old has to play this center now too!} I change up the images to keep my kinders on their toes. I also love that this center requires team work to get it done quickly. It is one thing to match up these images on your own… and quite another to match them up in a group.

For one of our unit centers, we did a Fill the Ten Frame activity. I seriously can’t keep my kids away from this table. I have to make extra copies to help all my kids who want to play it more than once.

We also did this number word matching game. The read the turkey card with the number word written out on it and they place the number on top of it.
