Halloween Party Ideas for Kindergarten

October 27, 2014 by Mary Amoson 4 Comments

Halloween Party Ideas for Kindergarten

Halloween Party ideas for Kindergarten are always needed. Let me share with you some of the fun activities we do for Halloween, in place of a party. Our school allows 2 parties per year; Christmas and Valentines. So we don’t have an actual Halloween Party, but fun activities instead. We have these special activities at centers for Halloween only. After this one day, they go away so we encourage all our learners to go to all the activities on this one day.

Every school has different policies and rules. You may not be able to do everything I can do, but I am here to share idea that you can hopefully use and modify to fit your needs. I have included some fun activities, some learning activities, and a great freebie with the book Too Many Pumpkins.

Bag of Bones Graph

Bag of Bones Graph

For this center activity, we have bag of bones Cheetos separated into little bags. Each bag will make on skeleton. Students play out their Cheetos onto this graph and color it in. Then, they can eat the Cheetos of course. There are also more printable options like labeling, sorting, comparing numbers. You can grab the math activity you want your learners to work on. And these printables are free.

Spider Ring Grabs

Spider Ring Grab Idea for Halloween party

This is a Pinterest inspired idea I can not recall where I got! Essentially, I take white yarn and thread it through a basket or two. Then, we drop spider rings into the bottom. Students use pinchers to grab out the spider. It seems simpler than it actually is for little hands.

Decorate a Cookie

Decorate a Cookie for Halloween

I am always shocked with how many students have never decorated their own cookie before. Each year, we set up a station where students get a plate and icing to to decorate their own cookie. We also usually have a juice box at this station for a snack. I know many of you may not be able to do this, but you can, I encourage you to allow students some cookie decorating.

Number Building

Build Numbers with pumpkin ten frames and erasers.

This one is FUN and so easy to play. Each student gets a ten frame of pumpkins that I grabbed from the dollar store. Students roll a die and place that many erasers into the ten frame to try to fill it up. The first one to fill their ten frame wins.

Spider Races with Straws

Spider Races with Straws

This is such a fun game that my students always love. One change you can make is to give each student their own race board. Here is how to prep the spider races. Students get one spider ring and straw. Student place their ring on the START line. They blow on their spider to race it to the finish line. They keep their spider at the end and we do not reuse straws.

Toilet Paper Bowling

Ghost Pumpkin Bowling

This one is always fun. First, I grab a few toilet paper rolls and decorate them with ghost faces with tape and black construction paper. We use small pumpkins as our balls to bowl. We roll them to knock over the ghosts. Since the pumpkin isn’t perfectly round, it takes more lunch than skill to knock down rolls.

I love, love your ideas for the activities that parents help lead! We can't do Halloween at school, but we do "harvest parties" on Halloween day, so anything I can tweak to just make seasonal is awesome! Thanks for the great ideas always and the fun freebie!
