April 24, 2013 by Mary Amoson 15 Comments

How to Make a Digital Class MovieI know many of you are winding up your school years soon.
I have a GREAT idea I want to share with you and hope you decide to try it out.
Each year, I make my students a paper scrapbook AND a digital scrapbook!
Each kid gets a copy of a DVD full of the memories
from the entire school year to keep forever.
digital scrapbook HELP
And if I can do it… so can YOU!
{And I make a tutorial to help you out as well!}
I made an amazing pack you can grab to help make your digital scrapbook amazing
and SO EASY!
Here is what I included in the pack:
Digital Scrapbook Covers
Optional covers to start your slideshow with.
I made a PreK, K, 1st, and general cover.
You can choose which works best for you!
I made monthly headers to help organize your class pictures!
Digital Scrapbook Monthly Headers
One set is plain and one has cute clip art with it.
None of the clip art contains those “forbidden holidays” some of you can’t celebrate.
Digital Scrapbooks Digital Headers
AND I made extra Holiday Themed headers with holidays on them for those who do celebrate.
Digital Scrapbooks Holiday Themed Headers
And I also included headers for tons of holidays, celebrations,
and fun events in the classroom!
 Digital Scrapbook Specific Headers
I know so many of you LOVE this idea
but don’t know how to use these pictures or how to create a digital scrapbook!
HELP IS HERE!
I made a 7 minute You Tube video showing you how
I create my digital slideshow using Movie Maker on a PC.
I will talk you through getting started, adding the headers, class photos,
and music files to the video.
I also give you tips on making the scrapbook as easy for you as possible.

Click on this link to watch the video so you can create your own digital scrapbook!

    Hi Mary!
This is FABULOUS! I am so glad I checked your blog today! You made my day! I always do a power point which takes forever to do but this seems to be alittle easier! I am going to try to use media player this year! Thanks so much for your wonderful help! One question- do you have the pictures you are going to use on the computer on on a cd? Just wondering!
    Many thanks!

I take all the pictures from my camera's memory card and transfer them to my computer. That is what is the easiest for me.

I found that I usually spend all my time on those title pages!! This takes care of that! And I think the slide show will be out of this world!!!

I hope you give it a try! It takes some effort, but it is so worth it! Plus, once you do it once, it gets easier!

I have a question not related to the video (which is an awesome idea). I love how colorful your blog is. I am new to blogging. I have created a very simple website in freewebs.com, but I'd like to get more creative with my backgrounds and clip art. What did you use to create this page? I have a blogger account, but I am lost on how to upload backgrounds. Any tips on where to go to "see," since I am a visual learner, how to design a page like this? I also was wondering if you paid for the backgrounds you used or if there is a site that has free ones that are as colorful and fun as yours? Thanks for any suggestions you might be able to offer.

Thanks for posting this plenty early! These slides will really make my DVD look great! I don't know why I've never thought of adding transition slides like these.

I've been lucky to have daughter who puts together my class slide show every year. I just dump the class photos from my camera or phone into a file and she does the rest. However, I did notice she was a bit sluggish this year. I think she's getting tired of doing it (although she's REALLY good at it). So this is a great read for me as I think the job will fall to me next year. I do have one question though — do you have any resistance of publishing and distributing these to students with FERPA or privacy issues? Do you include students names in slide show? Thanks.

All my students sign a release. And I don't publish them online, I just make a DVD for each student.

Thanks for the reply! I've had parents request a copy a few times in past years, but have always declined or referred them to the principal. Thanks for the feed back — I think I'll add that component next year so that I can distribute them. The kids sure do love watching it.

Thanks Mary! I always do a paper one. I have tons of pictures and I give them a mini yearbook of them. And then I would give the photos on a cd to the volunteer parents. But you make it look so easy. Thanks!

THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this! Up until last year, I always did this for my class. I used Windows DVD Maker. However, Last year, after getting a new computer, I didn’t have that program. I used a different option, but the DVD did not turn out anywhere near how I wanted it to! This looks like the perfect solution! After watching your video, it looks like it will be easy to do using this program! I hope you have a great end of the year!
