Center Saturday

May 4, 2013 by Mary Amoson 1 Comment

Here are my weekly work centers from this past week while we learned about

{Remember to look at the border color on each picture and match it to the description below.}
Yellow- Math-This week we used these ten frames to make addition and subtraction sentences. I walked my kids through doing these once and they all thought it was going to be hard. BUT… they got it so quickly and understood what they were doing. Seriously, not one kid in my room didn’t write both addition and subtraction sentences using these ten frame cards.
Orange- Writing-We wrote some insect word using our Bugged Out Secret Code Words. I love then students make a mistake and therefore write a nonsense word… they know they have to look at their code again! I updated this pack to include a set of QR codes as well as regular codes if you are a techie fan.
Red- Reading- We wrote 4 sentences about insects using these Buggy Sentence Scrambles. Each sentence had 5 words in it and a describing word. Of course, they rocked it. I love seeing them manipulate the words in the sentence and reading them to make sure it makes sense first. I also love seeing them use the capital letters and punctuation to form the sentence.
Purple- Phonics- I used this Carson Dellosa file folder game to review some blends. This game focused on c and cl as well as F and fl.
Blue- Unit- We finished our Paddy Potato Project. My kids loved seeing the potato change over the weeks. We leave the potato on the back counter to see it change. It is joining the tadpoles, ladybug larva, and our flowers we are growing for Mother’s Day!
Green- Unit-We labeled our parts of a ladybug larva. Our actual ladybugs are now pupas so we are excited to see when they will “hatch” and come out as ladybugs.
I plan on doing work centers until the last week of school, as long as our play practice isn’t solely in the afternoons. When do you stop doing work centers?

    I love your centers. The ten frame activity is something I need to do with my kinders. I like your ideas and am a new follower!
