Center Saturday

April 13, 2013 by Mary Amoson 2 Comments

Hey all center fans… it is that time again… Center Saturday!
Here are my weekly work centers from this past week while we learned about
-letter Qq and qu sound
-eat family
-subtraction without counters
-plants

Remember to look at the border color on each picture and match it to the description below.
Yellow- Math-I made these flower subtraction problems on notepad paper using 5 different colors of markers, one color for each student. The big number is always 10 and they had to take away different amounts from ten. Since the notepads are laminated, my kids wrote on them with dry erase markers.
Orange- writing- We used the garden themed word wall and prompts (that are differentiated and varied) from my Write Me Three Spring set. My kids wrote about the garden picture provided. They did awesome job independently.
Red- Reading- This game came from The Mailbox and asks the students to sort short a and short o words in the flower garden.
Purple- Phonics- We sorted those tricky letters p, b, d, and q at this station this week!
Blue- Unit- Our potato grew so much over the break! These kids wrote about the potato in week 4 of their books. It is getting super gross! Since we are also talking about plants, this week was extra fun and meaningful for the class.
Green- Unit- This is a favorite of mine and MY CLASS! And it is SO easy. I went to the store and bought cheapo seed packs for about 20 cents each. I made sure they each started with a different letter. Then I put each set (I have 4 sets) in a gallon size baggie. Students put the seed packages in ABC order. Seriously… fun, easy, and my kids never complain about doing 10 seed packs in ABC order like they do with regular words.

I hope these center ideas give you some GREAT ideas for the classroom.
Which one is your favorite?

I love your flower subtraction problems! What a good idea to use a cute notepad and laminate the sheets. Thanks for sharing your centers and giving me some good ideas! 🙂
