Happy fall!
I can’t believe how awesome our weather is!
This week had a blast learning about the Letter Ll, -ag family, leaves, and continuing building number sense.
{We specifically talked about comparing numbers.}
I am still diving into math centers.
This is only my second week,
so I am not an expert,
but I am going along with the experience to make it work for my amazing
My yellow table station was this FUN leaf and ladybug number fill in activity.
The start at the number on the leaf and find the missing “ladybug number” to fill in the blank.
I am trying to get my students to START at a particular number, then counting on from that number.
Some students can do this while others love to count to THAT number, then keep going.
The orange table was a number writing station for numbers 1-30.
{Seriously… I am making them do this.
Why? We have lots of 51 instead of 15.
And we have a lot of confusion with 20’s and 30’s.
I am hoping by making them write the number patterns down,
it will help them to SEE the patterns themselves.
We are taking about these patterns at calendar too,
but doing is better than hearing in the world of a 5 year old.}
And keep in mind this is supported number writing.
Some of these numbers are given in the blanks and there is a 1-30 number chart as well.
Are we flipping numbers? Yes
Is that okay? Yes
This is all a work in progress.
Practice makes progress… not perfection.
Red table was fun!
We used these apple puzzles to build number sense.
We used these apple puzzles to build number sense.
Each number had 4 pieces to the puzzle;
number, number word, ten frame, and cubes.
We did these apple puzzles in math last week,
so we did them AGAIN in center this week.
Here were the pieces…
laying out on the floor…
so all 4 center friends can dive in.
These took a while.
Typically one or two students didn’t want to “help” in the center.
Those friends did not get checked off.
Effort is everything.
I did help some of the students organize this station my taking the number cards
and laying them out in order first, then finding the other pieces in them.
This saves my students from counting and forgetting and counting again.
The purple table was muffin pan numbers.
I put numbers 0-11 on one side of the file folder and numbers 12-23 on the other.
My students has to count the ten frame and match it to the number on the pan.
They did this in groups of 2,3, or 4 depending on how many students came to that center at a time.
Here is another hint:
I love using COLORED file folders to help organize centers.
If I make this game twice and put it on two different colored file folders,
and coordinate the pieces, it makes set up and clean up so much easier.
This also helps when one of my
needs to redo a center.
You give them a different color file folder!
Somehow they don’t mind redoing it then.
Blue table was a class favorite.
It is a game I made up called Fill the Ten Frame.
We play it a lot and they never get enough of it.
Here is what we do.
I put pictures, letters, whatever in a foam die and we roll it.
We circle the picture we guess will win.
Then we color in one block of the ten frame for each roll, until one of the images/letters/whatever gets filled.
Here are my workers!
Whichever picture gets filled, we color it!
SO MUCH FUN.
Our last center was green… and it was another number counting/matching game.
These go with There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed Some Leaves book.
Just like with the colored file folders,
these were created with colored cardstock so they are easy to organize, set up, and clean up.
Also, see how extra “shiny” the lamination is?
Our laminator at school started acting up ubber bad last year.
This is when I decided I needed my own to get it done right.
Looking at this set makes me SO glad I have a personal laminator now.
SO WORTH IT.
So far math centers are working out great.
We are going a lot of counting and number recognition because that is what my class needs.
I hope this helps inspire some Math Center Ideas for your classroom!
Here are the packs I used this week.
Fill The Ten Frame is genius! I love finding new games that are so flexible! Thanks for the inspiration!

Wonderful Kindergarten
You really have centers down to a science!

Love them all!! Trying this next week!!
