The Ultimate Glue Gun Tip

April 29, 2016 by Mary Amoson 6 Comments

The Ultimate Glue Gun Tip

You need to know this Ultimate Glue Gun Tip! I have discovered the BEST glue gun tip EVER for hanging up just about anything on your school walls. When I say THIS is the ultimate tip… I mean it. I can’t believe I didn’t know this easy trick before now.

First, Let me say this is NOT my idea. Everyone in my current school does this. They thought everyone knew about this trick. BUT I had no clue… so I am assuming you also have NO CLUE.

What is the ULTIMATE Gun Gun Tip for wall decor… that will ensure your walls remain clean and glue dot free… is MASKING TAPE. (Or painters tape!)

Here is what you do.

  1. Back your wall decoration piece with masking tape, sticky side out.  You can put the masking tape on the paper or for larger items you can tape a strip down to the wall directly, sticky side down as well.  We know if you do only this step, your wall decor piece will not stay up long term. In my school, things will fall as soon as the heat or air come on.Use MASKING TAPE to hang your art... and the GLUE GUN glue will come right off
  2. Next, apply the HOT GLUE directly onto the TAPE. This is the part that actually allows the decorations to STAY on the wall. Try this MUST DO trick for wall decor!
  3. Here is an image of overlapped sections, which we need to do pretty often.Overlapping layers for wall decorations
  4. Now, here is the WHY for using the masking tape with the glue gun…
When you pull off the decorations, ALL THE GLUE comes off with the tape. It does not stay on the wall. And when you pull it off the layers, it still comes off on the masking tape!Use this tip to pull glue OFF your walls each and every time
  5. Your walls can and will look like this! No glue dots that tear up your nail as you try to scrap it off.

What your walls should look like AFTER you remove decorations... with this tip!
I hope you can and will use this EASY tip for future wall decoration projects in the future.

Sounds great, but does this work on painted walls? Our principal won’t allow us to use tape off any kind on the walls. He’s afraid it will pull the paint off when we remove the tape.

I’ve heard to put painters tape on the wall, then put the hot glue on top of the painters tape and your poster on top of that. Haven’t tried it yet though.

Yes, Kate is correct. Our school is really strict so we tried everything and the painters tape stayed up with hot glue on top. Just don’t do anything too heavy or it will pull it. Good luck!

You can actually just put the strip of masking tape or even better painters tape directly on the wall, run the glue gun on that strip and then stick your item on there.

I have been doing this for years!! Totally worth it!!! Our school is real strict, but after I did this for a few years, now everyone is on board! I have done it on painted walls too! I use painters tape on the cinder block walls as well.
