The Very Hungry Caterpillar… DONE

April 4, 2013 by Mary Amoson 6 Comments

I have been loving Spring Break this week.
I have cleaned, done laundry, and played countless games with my daughter S.
We have rode bikes, played playdoh, and she has been my helper to clean up my office!
{It was super messy and totally not functional.
Since S has a play area in my office, it is only far that she “assist” me with the clean up.}
I can’t say that I have slept… because I have NOT.
When S hits the bed, I hit the computer.
And I am SO SO SO excited about my newest unit for my students.
{Thanks to my old student teacher for asking me for this unit 2 weeks ago!
She inspired me to put it together.}
here on TpT, here on TN
 I aligned everything to the common core,
differentiated many of the activities,
and made sure everything was hands on, colorful, and FUN!
 Here are the activities I included:

Describing Word Activity– chart, printable, and extending activity

Writing Activities– 4 different versions and word wall provided
Reading Comprehension Game– 30 Questions with answer key

Eat SUM Fruit
Leaf Some Eggs
I included a FREEBIE Beginning, Middle, and Ending response sheet in the download preview.

I hope you love this unit as much as I do!
Here is a simple art project we also do…

I take lots of yellow and green construction paper and use the die cut at school to make it into circle.
I use a few reds for the head only.
My little loves can put together their caterpillar using the circles,
then the add the legs, antenna, and additional features to it.

This is simple, fun, and brings the book to life for your students.

Now, on to the rest of my Spring Break list.

    I love this post! I use _The Very Hungry Caterpillar_ to teach Spanish to my students in 2nd and 3rd grade. I wish I had a version of your unit in Spanish!

    Thanks to the fact that so many teachers use it in the early years, they really know the story and can understand it in Spanish.

    Beautiful work!

    The Very Hungry Caterpillar is one of my favorite Eric Carle Books that I love to read to the kiddos I watch and also to my daughter. Eric Carle is an amazing author. I would love to win either prize and use it with the kids I watch. Thanks for an amazing blog.

    My students love Mr. Carle's illustrations. The sequencing of days gets the children excited to read along with me and helps them learn the days of the week. I have always been drawn to any book he has written or illustrated. Thank you for this offer!
