Are you looking for some fun pumpkin patch activities for Kindergarten? Check out these engaging pumpkin-themed learning activities that will help you practice skills with your little learners.
Pumpkin Patch Number Recognition Activity
My little learners are rocking numbers 1-10, but we always struggle with those teen numbers. I know if we don’t continuously practice teen numbers, we seem to forget them. One of the skills we strive to work on continuously work on is number recognition.
With this activity, a student snags a numbered pumpkin card. Next, the student says the number out loud and finds it on their record sheet. They can trace it or write it, depending on the type of recording sheet they use.
Pumpkin Patch Number Words
Next, let’s work on number words. Using this printable, students can practice reading the number word and writing the number in the pumpkin to match the number word. My little learners love to color this printable as well. How much fun would this be for pumpkin patch activities for the kindergarten?!
Pumpkin Wagon Counting
Check out these pumpkin wagon number mats. I would love to use these with pumpkin erasers or counters. But, you can also use these pumpkin pieces provided to count the number of pumpkins to match the mat.
Pumpkin-Themed Number Sense Matching
Now, as we are working on number words and counting, it makes sense to play to learn with these number sense puzzles. Students count the pumpkin seeds on the right side and match it to the number word on the left side.
Make a Pumpkin Pattern
Years ago when I started teaching, one of the first weeks of school was dedicated to teaching colors and patterns. Flash forward to the current curriculum which many times skips these skills. I always have Kindergarten students who struggle with patterns. I highly recommend teaching and reviewing patterns. This patterning activity allows the learner to extend the pattern. Other pattern activity mats can be used to make patterns as well.
So many teachers tell me they need FUN and engaging skill-building activities with minimal prep for their little learners. I hear you. This one is a perfect example of a one-page printable you laminate and students can work on reviewing color and number words with ease. Best yet, you get several leveled printables to allow for easy differentiation.
Reviewing Color and Number Words at the Pumpkin Patch
Blending Real and Nonsense Words
Blending real and nonsense words is a skill that takes time, practice, and repeated exposure. We work on blending the whole group daily and in small groups weekly. After many attempts, it is amazing to see students tapping out and blending words to read.
This activity makes it fun for your little learners to read. Students take one of the several pumpkin-themed mats. They lay out the vowel. Next, they blend the words. Finally, they say the word and talk about whether it is real or nonsense.
Be warned, when we do this activity in small groups, my learners very often want to sound out all the words on all the mats. This is such a confidence builder and students love it.
Pumpkin Matching with Words and Letters and Sounds
Once students are gaining independence in blending words, I suggest working on matching CVC words to pictures. I break these up by vowel sounds. Check out this collection of pumpkin-themed CVC word-matching activities.
Now, I usually have a few students who don’t master letters and sounds mastery right away so reviewing this is helpful to them. I have a pumpkin-themed activity for them as well.
Pumpkin Describing Word Writing
I always recommend using our theme or topic for learning to drive our writing. Just like with apples, we work on describing pumpkins. We work on doing this with words before we do this with writing.
Pumpkin-Themed Review Printables
And yes, more review printables are also included. I know you will love these pumpkin activities for Kindergarten.
