Continuing Learning Activities

March 13, 2020 By Mary Amoson 4 Comments

We are in uncharted territories in the state of Georgia. School has been canceled for two weeks. We are moving towards a digital continuous learning activities model for these two weeks. Let me share with you how my grade level is handling this and provide you an editable way to do this FREE continuing learning activities checklist.

Our Original Continuous Learning Plan

First, our school system asked us to be prepared for digital learning and to have things ready to be sent home on Friday. We did this and had packets ready. But then, school got canceled on Thursday and those packs are now sitting at school. No worries, we have an easy solution in this continuing learning activities checklist.

Then, I want to tell you that I did not create this checklist alone. Instead, my Kindergarten team sat down and make this together. We talked through everything we wanted our students to work on easily. Our goal is less papers and more simple fun. Plus, lets be honest, not everyone will be doing activities over the break. Although this list looks BIG, it is actually not. Most of these activities are simple and fast. Students can easily do these activities in less than an hour.

How to Start Digital Learning

I recorded a video talking to my student about why we are not in school. I encouraged them to wash their hands. Then, I asked them to show kindness to others and do the activities their families are asking them to do. Finally, I asked them to do hard things because they can do hard things. Then, I send home this sheet. I made sure I included any log in information parents may need.

Daily Check Ins

My plan is to post simple journal prompts and free digital games for my learners to play each day. Once a student completes a journal prompt, I will read these and share feedback on them. I will also check behind them in Raz-Kids and iXL so I can reward my students on these skills. Although they have reading options, I plan to read a book digitally to them each day as well. Make sure you provide families with log in info for all websites.

My class is currently obsessed with fact fluency practice on Quizzizz. You can see any of my Quizzizz games if you search @mary.amoson on Quizzizz. Grab what you save them to favorites, make a copy of them, edit them, and share them with your class. (If you see some upper grade Quizzizz, remember I taught 5th for a year!) I think Quizzizz will be such a fun tool for learning fun!

Grab your Download and Edit

Many of you asked to buy this checklist from me on TpT. I did not create this on my own. I can not take money for a group effort. Moreso, this is something you can grab from me and edit for you. I do not want to charge for this. If you love this and want to buy something else from my TpT store, here is that link. You can also purchase from my SK’s Online Store here.

But, here is a FREE download to this checklist as well as editable versions.
You will see my PDF version.
You will also get a PowerPoint Version and a Word version that are both editable.
If you need a google doc version, you can grab a copy of this here.
Finally, I highly suggest you making changes and then saving your file as a PDF or as a view only for your families.

I am so excited to SHARE Kindergarten with you!
Check your email for your freebie file.

    Hello, Mary!
Thank you for all that you share!! Where would I find the book, Teach Your Monster to Read? Is it a book you created? You put it on your checklist. I I am trying to get more emergent readers to send home with my Kindergartners. I thought this could be a great addition!
    Gratefully yours,
    Ellen Moak

This is wonderful! Not every child has computer and internet access so this a wonderful way to simplify things and hopefully keep parents from getting too stressed! Thank you so much!
