It is Center Saturday time with some FUN pictures of our US Symbols thrown in.
We had so much fun learning all about the letter Ww, -ell family, and we learned about US Symbols. We also are expanding addition since these guys are getting so good at it without manipulatives.
Here are our work centers from this week.
Yellow- Math- We did some addition practice on US Symbols accents. I put different problems on all the pieces. Students can choose to do all the same symbols, like all the Constitutions or Washington pieces, or a mixture. I always try to show my students horizontal and vertical math sentences.
Orange- Writing- We did a FUN write-the-room activity looking for st words on stars hidden around the room on our sheets. My class LOVED this. It is also a part of my Presidents’ Day Unit Plans.
Red- Reading- We sorted the watermelons into letters, words, and sentences. My students had to read the sentences to me as well.
Purple- Phonics- We sorted the mitten with words into wagons by the letters m and w. My kids did amazing with this.
Blue- Unit- We did this Label It! activity on Mount Rushmore. My students loved learning about the presidents and didn’t need any help finding which President was which on the mountain. It is also a part of my Presidents’ Day Unit Plans pack.
Green- Unit- We worked in groups of 4 to complete this 60-piece puzzle of the USA. This was a challenge, but such a good team working/skill-building activitI didn’t do a good job of sharing our other US Symbol activities from this week.
Today we talked about the fl blends for phonics (we do a blend or digraph or special sound each Friday)

We did this together, but honestly… my class is becoming amazing readers and writers every day!
I was super proud of their fl blends!
We made flags of the USA.
And no… I am guessing not one student actually “put” 50 stars on their flags. They can totally count that high, but they added so many more because they loved the painting idea so much!
And during Daily 5, we did this Write Me Three Activity. We put describing words in the box and the noun we were describing at the end. We used our classroom flag as the model.
Here is the pack with all these lesson plans, activities, and art.
That looks amazing. I love how you made the US symbols come alive for your kids and their handwriting is great! I bring in worms and spread them out on a table for the kids to explore on W week and then we do worms academic activities. We also have our big Western Round up switch R Roo where the students visit all the different K4 teachers for a different element of a dude ranch. Don't you love this time of year where the kids just take off and soar with all the things you have poured into them all year.
Have a great weekend!!
