All About Me Reader
You will love implementing these fine motor skills into your all about me lesson plans so you can implement these fun activities with use over the first few weeks of school. One of our top All About Me ideas for kindergarten is using an All About Me reader. This engaging activity allows students to explore their identities while also sharing with their peers. It’s a fantastic beginning of the school year activity where students can practice writing their names, identifying their eye color, hair color, and even their favorite color. This is a fun way to include simple fine motor activities into having students write about their favorite things at the beginning of the year.
As they work through the reader, they can discuss important personal details like their address and phone number, all while reinforcing color sight words. This fun activity is not only educational but also a great addition to your name activities. How much fun is this All About Me Reader? You can grab it here right now! All About Me Rainbow
This year, I wanted to add some artistic flair to our All About Me week. Nothing speaks “Kindergarten” like art! The All About Me Rainbow is a great opportunity for kids to express themselves creatively while working on important skills. We work on this during the first full week of school in small groups. Can we ever get enough name practice?

We started with puffy clouds for the child’s name, followed by simple prompts for them to trace. Tracing is a simple way to encourage speaking in complete sentences and improve handwriting, especially at the beginning of the school year. For students ready for more, they could even create their own sentences. We completed this activity in small groups over two days, which provided plenty of time for each child to engage fully. Additionally, you can write words they need to copy on the whiteboard with dry-erase markers for them to fill in the words they don’t know.

Next, we glued the colorful strips behind the name clouds. To add more fun, I used different colors of Astrobright copy paper. Make sure to glue the strips on the opposite side of the writing to display their work correctly—like we did with this green strip. This activity is a perfect way to incorporate numbers, colors, and other fun topics that young kids love to explore.

Here’s another student’s rainbow! You can see how we incorporated various materials like construction paper and glue to create vibrant displays. This activity also reinforced important math skills and provided lots of fun.
These All About Me ideas for kindergarten are not only fun but also serve as an excellent way to start the year with a focus on social skills, self-expression, and critical thinking. Whether you’re a preschool teacher or a kindergarten teacher, these engaging activities are a great start to the new school year!
