Apple Finger Painting Project for Kindergarten
We wrapped up our apple unit a few weeks ago, but I just had to share this adorable apple finger painting project with you! It’s a simple, low-prep craft that my students absolutely loved—and it doubles as a keepsake I save for their end-of-year memory books.
Finger-Painted Apples
The highlight of our display was definitely the finger-painted apples. This is a project I do every year, and it always turns out so sweet. Each apple is unique, and they make the perfect decoration for a fall-themed classroom door. Later, I tuck the apples into each student’s memory scrapbook—a little reminder of our time together.
Here’s how we make them:
- Trace an apple shape onto cardstock or construction paper. (Cardstock holds paint better!)
- Write names on the back—right in the middle—so they’re still visible after cutting.
- Finger paint with three fingers only:
- Pointer finger = red paint (for the apple)
- Middle finger = brown paint (for the stem)
- Ring finger = green paint (for the leaf)
- Clean up is easy with just baby wipes since only three fingers are used.
- Let the apples dry overnight.
- Cut them out the next day—either by students or (if you’re feeling extra generous) by you.
That’s it! Simple, fun, and perfectly seasonal.
Why I Love This Project
- It’s hands-on and memorable.
- It makes a beautiful bulletin board or door display.
- It doubles as a keepsake for scrapbooks.
- Most importantly, it’s easy to manage and clean up!
If you’re looking for a low-prep, high-impact fall craft, this apple finger painting project is a must-try.

Love the apples! Perfect for this time of year and thanks for the template. I love QR codes and really want my students to try them out. Do you have them do it independently or with an adult?

My kids can almost use the QR codes independently. I have an easy scanner on my devices, but the approved QR scanner for the school devices is a but harder to manage, so I need to help them a little. They catch on quickly though.
