Center Saturday

October 19, 2013 By Mary Amoson 2 Comments

I hope y’all had a GREAT week at school. We had a fall break last weekend and my little family and I got to head to Disney for the long weekend. Hence, I missed posting Center Saturday last week. I am debating posting it for you guys anyways since I love this weekly post.
Regardless, I am back to the scheduled programming this week with an awesome addition of Center Saturday. This week we learned about the letter Tt, farm animals, the word “this,” and we had a TON of meaningful fun along the way.

Yellow- Math- We made sets of numbers for our treasure chests using ten frame jewels. I made this activity to cover number 0-20. Each student had to complete at least 4 treasure chests. I loved that my kids had to use two different ten frames to make 20 instead of one card with the two ten frames on it. My kids had to try a little harder to build the numbers.
This is part of my Letter Tt Activities Pack, which is part of this bundle.

Orange- Writing- we used this Write Me Three sheet about pigs to talk about why we need farms and pigs. I just finished this pack here!

Red- Reading- We used the treasure chest mats to sort. One set had students sorting capital and lowercase letters and the other sets had students sorting -at and -ot family words.
This is part of my Letter Tt Activities Pack, which is part of this bundle.

Purple- We put the turkey cards in ABC order. Since we do this often, my kids are really getting good at it. I made these turkey cards my first year teaching and I LOVE them. {I can’t part with them because I remember cutting out each letter with an exacto knife and gluing it down with rubber cement glue.} I did make an updated version here in the Letter Tt Activities Pack, which is part of this bundle.

Blue- Unit- We made these scarecrows using The Mailbox idea and direction sheets. I am strongly encouraging independence at this stage in K and I wanted my kids to follow the picture directions on their own to create their scarecrow. Many of my students did AWESOME. A few really, really, really wanted me to walk them through creating this art step by step!

Green- Unit- We did this awesome Farm Secret Code Word activity. My students were able to check their work using the QR codes provided. It was so much fun because it was a review of letters, numbers, creating words, and using technology in one lesson.
Here is the link to my Farm Secret Code Words Activity.

Here is my newest Write Me Three pack… all about the FARM.

Here’s to a great weekend!
I am hoping to finish up my Farm Write Me Three and create another reading comp game.

This week seemed to be the longest and slowest all This week seemed to be the longest and slowest all at the same time. In science, we dove into the water cycle. On Friday, we got to try some simple (covid friendly) science experiments. We melted colors ice cubes to show states of matter changes. Then we did small cups for sink float. We predicted if each item would sick or float, then tested out. We can choose f2f or virtual this week, so I only had 12 in the room with me and 8 at home.
