Let’s talk about sight word stations and let me share some tips & tricks on how to manage Sight Word Stations with ease and how to teach your learners how to take care of some situations themselves.
Sight Word Stations Tips & Tricks
Let me show you the amazing work my little learners have been doing with this set of Sight Word Stations. And keep in mind, the idea of this pack is to give you too many options for stations that you can pick and choose which ones you are going to use.
Time Frame for Sight Word Stations
I give my students 10 minutes a day to work with their sight words. They usually become highly engaged and want more time. Here are my little learners working on their sight words. And remember, they do this completely independently of me! They grab their baskets, get to work, and clean up with little to no direction or instruction from me at all. Here are my busy bees playing MEMORY with their sight words at the yellow table.
Memory
Sentence Scramble
The orange table was dedicated to SENTENCE SCRAMBLES.
I love the sentence scrambles because I made sure to include previously used sight words as well as the current sight words. Since each week comes with 3 sets of sentence scrambles, it is great to put them at an independent table for students to sort. At our red table, I put the sentence scramble WORKSHEET at a separate station.
Sentence Scrambles
The 3 sets of cut-apart sentence scrambles have 3 matching worksheet options that match! Here is one of my little learners working hard to glue, write, then color their sight word sentence. Our purple table is ALWAYS a hit!
Watercolor the Words
We use WATER COLORS to write our sight words.
I put this station on the closest table to my sink so my little learners have easy assess to fill and empty their water cups. I also mark small plastic cups with a Sharpie line to show them how much water they need to use.
These cups can go into their baskets or stay by the sink when they are wet.
They also have to leave their papers hanging up to dry using these magnets on our back door frame.
{These are the button magnets found in the craft section of most stores.}
Secret Code Words
Our blue table was SECRET CODE WORDS. My students broke the secret code to create their sight words.
Then they use the QR code option to check their answers.
Roll and Write
Green table is also a favorite. My kids LOVE to Roll and Write their sight words.
They take this large foam die and roll it. Whatever sight word ends up on TOP is the word they write on their graph. They pass the die and keep playing until one sight word reaches the top and WINS.
I make a few extra copies of activities of some of the Sight Word Stations and keep them on hand.

My students are known for finishing their stations before Friday because they love them so much. I can quickly change out a station with one of these backups or I simply add one of these activities to their Daily 5 rotations.
Read Along Activity
Another station I provide is a READ ALONG activity. Listening and Following Direction, skills are so important at this age and are such a challenge. Each week, I take the audio file I PROVIDE in each pack and make a CD for my listening and following direction activity.
Here is how I do it on a PC. I open up my Windows Media Player {right} and my weekly files from my right Word Stations pack {left}.
I move the audio file from its location to the BURN tab on Windows Media Player. {See it as the music/wav file moving over?}
I put it under the ‘Burn List.”
Then, I insert a black CD and select “Start burn.”
These steps take less than a minute to do. The computer burns my audio file to a CD. I label it with a sharpie and place it in my listening station. You can get all my Sight Word Stations {PrePrimer, Primer, and 1st Grade} in bundled packs to save you time and money or get them week by week.
I have bundles and weekly stations: If you click on the bundles, you will see the weekly breakdown listed in the product description.
