Center Saturday

January 11, 2014 by Mary Amoson 2 Comments

The Polar Vortex couldn’t keep my sweet kids from school ALL week.
We returned to school after an extra two days off,
leaving us three fun filled school days to learn and complete centers.

Here were our work centers from this past week while we covered the letter Rr and worked on winter. We also started our landforms unit as well.
https://sharingkindergarten.com/product/letter-pack-big-bundle/ In math, we matched the colored rainbow to their correct spot to order the numbers. My kids thought this was so cool and couldn’t wait to fill in the rainbows. {Rr Activities on TpT which is part of this bundle, here on TN}
https://sharingkindergarten.com/product/there-was-an-old-lady-who-swallowed-bundle/For writing this week, we did a Write Me Three from the book, There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow. I gave my lovely students this sheet and a word wall. They did this activity completely independently. They are started to get really good at adding the “a, an, the, some” and even commas to make the sentences make sense. The top student read me there sheet as three separate sentences… cool. And the bottom student read me their sheet as one sentence… also cool. The best part is my kids are able to complete these independently and KNOW what they are writing.{Here on TpT, here on TN}
For reading this week, we redid our -op family activity. I had a LOT of kids in and  out that week of school, so I wanted to take this shorten week to MAKE sure we all had it together before I moved on… and not one of the kids in my class minded. They went to the center and completed it and smiled when I checked it. I think they thought I had lost my mind and didn’t know it… and 1/3 of the class never did it anyways and didn’t know better.
https://sharingkindergarten.com/product/letter-pack-big-bundle/ For our phonics center, we sorted the Rr and Ww words on the mats. I know these young kids mispronounce these wounds all the time, so I need to know if they can tell the difference in the sounds to write. It is an 8 year old sound to make, but we expect 5 year olds to read it, write it, and use it… so we better make sure they can! {Rr Activities on TpT which is part of this bundle, here on TN}
http://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/There-Was-a-Cold-Lady-Who-Swallowed-Some-Snow-Literacy-and-Math-189385Our first unit center this week was a labeling activity for the Cold Lady. I didn’t help my kids one bit. I also didn’t leave vocabulary cards to picture references up in the room for them to refer to. I went through the picture and we talked about each item on the snowman. I told them they NEEDED to READ the words and sound out every part they could to label the snowmen. They did very good. {Sniff, they are growing up! Dare I say they are getting ready for First Grade!?!} {Here on TpT, here on TN}
The last center this week was based on our topic of Landforms. I gave my students this Earth sheet and they had to find th words in the room. {I love the this is spelled thsi here!} This takes my class a while, until someone gets smart and looks on the word wall in the room. In years past, a smarty pants has also grabbed a sight word list. As long as my kids can read me the words, it counts.
My activities this week came from here:

And please be thinking of my hubs this weekend!
He is running the Doopy Challenge at Disney.
He ran a 5K Thursday, 10K Friday, a Half marathon this am, and he running a WHOLE marathon tomorrow! I am so proud of him for doing it. If he makes it, then pray for me.
{I will have to live with him and his big head! haha}
