Snap Words Cards

Snap Words Cards

Snap Words Cards: Want to make learning sight words a SNAP for those hard-to-reach learners? How about those young birthday kids who just lack maturity and interest in words? Or those ADD/ADHD or special needs students who just need something to catch their attention or keep their attention?

What are Snap Word Cards?

I found these incredible sight word cards a few years ago thanks to an awesome Facebook suggestion. I fell in love with the cards because I saw the gains my hard-to-reach students were making using them. But my students fell head over heels in love because these cards made learning FUN, engaging, and well- it made sense to them. FINALLY.

Let me Show You Snap Words

My words can not do these cards justice, so let me SHOW them to you. Friends, meet the best sight word cards ever created for Kinders… Meet Snap Words.

Pretty cool right? And if these cards got your attention, imagine the attention they will get from your students! Let me show you a little more about these cards. There are two sizes, the larger card is the teacher card. The smaller size is the pocket chart card. Both are exactly the same, only the size is different.

The sight word on the front is very visual… very appealing… very meaningful for the learner to gain understanding. More so, the back of the card contains a motion to teach your kinesthetic learners and a language connection. My own daughter, S, really connects with the sentence.

The best part is… ALL the elements tie in to really teach the meaning of the words. I use the front to show the words. I also teach motion and language with that word. Then, I flip the card over {to the back that has the word without the picture support} and we do the motion and language again with Snap Word Cards.

How to Use Snap Words

I use both sides and so do my learners. Why? Because although the visual side makes the words meaningful and connects knowledge in the little learner’s brains, we want these students to learn to read the words with plain text as well.

These cards are truly amazing. I have purchased a set for school and at home because I have seen how amazing they are! And just when I thought I couldn’t adore SnapWords enough, they turn up the love with an app!

Snap Word Card Results

I have been using these cards with S, my just-turned-5-year-old daughter. Here is some actual data for you to sink your teeth into. I started assessing her on January 8th and the last data point was assessed on January 27th. This is S’s progress reading the back of the cards only… no visual clues.

She started off at 7 sight words and she is now at 30 sight words. But, I also assessed her on knowing either the back {without the visual cues} AND the front {with the visual cues} without any help from me. Once she learns the picture and makes that visual, auditory, and motion connection, she quickly learns the back of the word soon after.

She started off knowing 20 words (7 backs only and 13 fronts) and she ended up knowing 47 words (30 backs and 17 fronts.) That is in 21 days and doing these cards about 3 times a week.

I promise to add pictures and videos of S and me using these cards soon. {It is a snow day for us and she is at her Grandmother’s house sledding down the hill. Snow in Georgia is more than rare, so we are taking advantage.}{I am going to take advantage of this myself and grab another list or two of cards since S is reading everything since I started using these cards!}

  1. I am a kindergarten Title I teacher, and the visual cards would be great for the kiddos I work with. They just cannot learn the sight words, and they've learned 8 so far.

  2. I love these Snap Words cards! I just wish their stuff on TPT was cheaper so I could buy all of it!! I have so many kids in my kinder class that are struggling, and these would be amazing!!!!

  3. I have been debating buying these cards for months now! I keep wanting the 306 kit, but have considered just starting with list A to see how I like them. My kids would love these 🙂

  4. Any of the visual sight words cards would be helpful! I have 2nd graders who have a hard time with their sight words. Definitely gotta check out the app for this!
Thanks for giving us the chance to win.

  5. I am currently teaching my first year of kindergarten in a low income school district. In the beginning of the year I started using Biffytoons similar to this program but with fewer words. My students benefited greatly from the program. I could see these cards being a huge success with my students. Thanks for the opportunity!

  6. What a fantastic idea!!! I would love set A- the preschool cards. I have a lot of students still struggling with those words. Thanks for the chance to win them!!

  7. These are amazing! I was also curious if the came with a list or if they are using Dolch or Fry. That would be important for me to know. I looked on the website but it only said that the kindergarten list used the most basic and commonly found words in kids books. Thanks!

    1. It would be too easy if they followed someone else's set. haha- List A has: a, an, and, are, as, at, back, big, but, by, call, can, come, did, do, down, for, get, go, has, have, he, help, here, hi, his, I, if, in, is, it, jump, like, little, look, make, me, my, no, not, now, on, or, out, play, ran, said, see, sit, so, stop, the, this, to, up, want, we, will, your.

  8. I have seen these many times. And every time I see them, I am refreshed and tell myself that I must give them a try. So….why have I not gotten them? Your evidence is wonderful. Such a smart way to be with your daughter after a long stressful day at school! I love it.

  9. Oops, I was supposed to say what I would most like to have. 😉 I think that everything looks great. Would love to have the whole sh-bang. But I think to get me started effectively, I would happily use the Classroom Kit.

  10. Yes, I bought these a while ago, and now I cannot remember the link to get them again! I WISH they were on teachers pay teachers!!!! Would love another COMPLETE set this time!!

  11. These look perfect for my little group! We are currently learning our letters and sounds using zoo phonics, it is working better then our "core" program. I think these snap words may be just what they need as we begin high frequency words! thank you! Paula

  12. Snap Words really are one of the best ways to incorporate brain-based learning into the complex and abstract world of sight words. My ESL kids (most of my kinder class) struggle with these words and Snap Words make them concrete and easy to remember and use in sentences. LOVE them!

  13. I'd like set f or g because I am thinking of buying a-e and this would help to complete my set. I think my kids would love these and they definitely need the practice!

  14. I've seen these several times and even used a few of the freebie samples but with the success you shared about your hard to reach students; I am finally convinced. The app looks like a great tool for reinforcement as well. Thanks!
