We talk all about how hard the first few months of school are. We talk all about how hard we work to tackle the to do list. And we talk all about the hurdles we face. But what if we take time to talk about that light. Remember there is light in the beginning of the year tunnel.
Remember… They Need You
First, keep in mind that your students need you. They don’t need the teacher down the hall or the teacher they had last year. Each student in your classroom needs you. They were selected to be in your classroom for this year. This is powerful and significant. Students are the reason we do what we do. They are our work!
Remember… Children Love Structure and Routines
Secondly, that structure and routine is important. We spend so much time on it because it is so important. Although it is so hard to teach and teach correctly, children love structure and routine. We just have to get them there. This takes time and patience. Sometimes we want to rush this process and we just can’t.
Remember… Students GROW and GROW
Now, this time of year it is critical to keep your eyes on the prize… your students. AND it is important to remember how much Kindergartners grow. Some students grow so much mentally, others grow more emotionally, and still others grow socially. Growth is there. After all Gardens grow… right?
Remember… The To-Do Lists Gets Done
Then, remember that that to do list will get done. Somehow it gets done. But more things will constantly need to be added because our work is never done. Our students are our work and they will always need us. Getting done the most critical things first is all you need to worry about because we will never be ahead. We are meant to just tread water.
Remember… You Can Do This
Finally, remember there is light. I want you to feel supported. You can do this. Our work is hard. It is important. It matters and it means something. But, we are all in this together. You are support. We are here to support you and share with you. I believe in you and what you contribute to education.
