Pet Themed Lesson Plans for Kindergarten: Last week, my class used the theme of Pet Themed Learning Fun. Since we just finished using our Pet Lesson Plans Plus unit a few weeks ago, I had to share the new changes and improvements to make Pet Activity for Learning Fun. {I added a TON of games and activities that are not in this post but that I know you will love.}
Pet Themed Lesson Plans for Kindergarten with Doggie Fun Word Game
I added a FUN segmenting game with dog bones to create using 3 and 4-letter words.
Did you notice the outline color coordinating with the letter color? This helps our little learners use the correct letters on the correct mat. This activity with a Pet Themed Lesson Plans for Kindergarten is a great word work activity.
Addition Fun Learning Mats
Next, check out this dog and dog house-themed addition activity. What a fun Pet Themed Lesson Plans for Kindergarten.
Pet Writing Books
We also worked very hard with writing to create these “My Perfect Pet Book.” My class completed these during our reading and writing groups all week. We used phonic spelling and sight words to finish the sentences about our pets. We also traced and drew our pets in the spot provided.
There is a page for a dog…
Next, you can see the fish page.
Now, check out the bird page.
and cat. {Which I didn’t capture on camera.}
Adding Some Art Too with Pet Themed Lesson Plans for Kindergarten
We also created many art projects using our pets. Here are some cutie birds we created.
The templates for ALL the art projects are included in this pack.
Fun Pet Day
I usually host a FUN Pet Day where each child can showcase their own pet. We decided to change it up this year. We decided to have each child bring in a small, stuffed pet. And once we had their pet, we wanted our little loves to design their pets a special home. {This idea is not in the pack, but you can see it here.}
Simple STEM Project for Pet Activity Fun
Why? Because we are working on STEM projects in our school system. During this process, I have learned that my students don’t understand the ‘design’ step. My awesome aid and I thought that we could allow our class to ‘design’ a pet home to help them work towards understanding and using design more.
We asked each student to bring in a stuffed pet that is smaller than a standard sheet of paper. We also asked them to bring in a PET… not a zoo animal. Check out these pets and their homes! Here is a lobster and it’s home.
{This sweet friend told me that lobsters are pets at stores and Red Lobster so they could be a home pet too! I took it! Good thinking honey bunny!}
Here is a puppy in its home.
I love how using the stuffed animals as their measurement tool. This puppy fits right into its home. See the water, food, and bed? Even a little pillow!!! Great design!
This pet is a bird.
Its home is a cage! And the sweet bird has a SWING. I hope you love and can use some of these FUN pet ideas. Please try the stuffed animal home designs in your school! I think your students will LOVE it like my students did. CLICK HERE to check out this learning pack.
