Meet Silly McGilly

February 15, 2015 by Mary Amoson 39 Comments

Have you guys met my friend,
Silly McGilly?
Silly McGilly FUN
 Silly McGilly is an adorable leprechaun
who comes to visit
your house or school…
Silly McGilly book for your classroom
 to play small tricks at night.
He doesn’t have to play naught trick,
 but he LOVES to do small SILLY things…
like leaving cabinet drawers open or coloring the milk green.
And he leaves the night before St. Patrick’s Day.
Check out this Silly McGilly!
Their website {www.sillymcgilly.com}
has some pretty fabulous parent or teacher freebies and printables you have to grab.
Here are some letter writing prompts you can print and use to write some notes to Silly McGilly.
FREE teaching materials!
Maybe you can leave Silly McGilly some suggestions on what tricks to play
or ask him some thing NOT to do.
I also LOVE this coloring sheet.
I know my students would love to color this sheet and
take it home to tell their parents all about Silly’s visits to our classroom.
{My kinders NEED visual reminders so this is ideal.}
FREEBIE Coloring Sheet
Since Silly McGilly plays small tricks each time he visits,
 which can be daily, weekly, or even ONCE,
what an AWESOME way to document his mischief..
than through using this Silly Scrapbook.
Silly McGilly Scrapbook
I plan on prepping one book per student and using this as morning work for his regular visits.
I can NOT wait to introduce Silly McGilly to my classroom.
Silly McGilly FREEBIES for your classroom
They do have a version you can purchase on Amazon if that helps.
And if you need some fun ways to Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day while learning…
check out these units I created.
A FREEBIE favorite is this Potato Project
 And my Old Lady Packs…
 And my all time FAVORITE St. Patrick’s Book is
Leprechaun on the Loose… here on Amazon
But I recommend grabbing it from Scholastic Teacher Stores HERE for under $4.
http://shop.scholastic.com/shop/en/teacherstore/product/Leprechaun-on-the-Loose
 {That is the price as of 2/14/15}
I use this book for STEM activities as well.
This companion set is great to use with the Leprechaun on the Loose unit.

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Leprechaun-on-the-Loose-Game-and-Writing-Prompts-601713
{It does not contain any STEM activities,
but I do use the BOOK to inspire us to make leprechaun traps.}
And we LOVE practicing sight words with this Secret Code Words Set.

    Would be perfect for St. Patty's when our mystery leprechaun leaves foot print trails to all of his silly tricks that mess with our classroom!

    A first-then for following directions could be left in a "scavenger hunt" kind of activity, with a sticker or some other "prize" at each destination.

    Silly McGilly would be a perfect read for when the leprechaun visits our classroom leaving his green footprints and mixing up everything in the room.

    Thanks for introducing me to Silly McGilly, as well as looking for books on the Teacher's Only Store. I never have looked their for books to read in the class. I always order from the reading club flyers, but was having trouble finding leprechaun books this year. Another great St.Patrick's Day read is The Luckiest Leprechaun.

    I think Silly McGilly should rearrange all the desks so the students are tricked. Silly McGilly would laugh from the corner of the room.

    This is a great idea! I never seem to have the time at Christmas time to the the Elf on the Shelf so this would be a better fit for me!

    I think he should cover the classroom tables in green paper. As students are finished with their work they could draw him pictures and write little notes to him on the table!

    I think Silly McGilly should introduce my students to the leprachaun project and do a new trick like leaving pieces of gold around the classroom, replacing every crayon with only green, etc. This will motivate the students to be creative with their traps :0

    I'd have him get out all the green dinosaurs, blocks, and other toys and leave them like he'd been playing. My class loved when the leprechaun has done that before.

    He may loose his shoes (green died baby shoes) and we have to find them. Then we get a surprise of Lucky Charms to graph.

    I think he should bring gold coins for the kiddos. If he is naughty he could turn the water in the toilet green (if you have a bathroom in your classroom). Do they still make green tinted cleaners? Way to kill two birds with one stone! 🙂

    I love the idea of having a leprechaun at home to do tricks! In my classroom the leprechaun usually hides clover cut outs (enough for each student), gold coins, makes a mess, and leaves rainbow colored streamers across the room. It's SO much fun!

    Thank you for this great opportunity!
