Woo Hoo!
Center Saturday is here!
This week we worked on the letter Bb, -op family, word make, and of course Christmas!
Here are our weekly work centers step by step.
For math, I took balloon accent cutouts and added numbers to 36. My class had to put the numbers in order. It killed me, but I didn’t put balloons in any order or pattern. Seeing the pinks together is making me gag, but I didn’t want to give the students any hints to get it right.
Also, remember that 4 students have to work together to completely this task. It is one thing to sort numbers by yourself… but it is another thing to do it WITH others.
Writing this week was all about the sight word make. My kids love the silent e and how it makes the vowel say its name. They did a great job with the letter make sheet. {Yes, my kids do worksheets sometimes at centers. I am not against it.}
My kids have to color the word, trace, write it. They cut out the letters and make the word. THEN they have to look in the box below to find the word and a similar word. This is a good way to make sure they actually know the sight word we are focusing on.
The reading center this week was an older center I made before we started the Common Core. We had a skill that said students need to know the difference between letters, words, and sentences. So I made this sorting game to have my kids to review this and add the numbers to it.
We still play this game because my kids still struggle with it and still need to work with this skill. I hope you to try to work on this skill with your students as well.
Just take cards and add numbers, letters, words, and simple sentences on cards.
In phonics we are learning about the letter Bb. And what letter do students confuse with Bb all the time? Dd of course.
We sorted the picture cards onto Bb and Dd mats. I love hearing them think out loud about what the picture on each card actually is. I don’t go through and tell the them pictures, so they have to apply reasoning to get some of them. {Bb Letter Pack}
This is a fun activity I made so many years ago I can’t count… I took tree notepad paper and added number words on it. I give my students poms and let them add that many ornaments to the tree to match the number word. I did make a digital version of this here if you want it. {Polar Express Plus}
I have a TON of ready to use activities and games for the letter Bb that you can find here.
I love these packs because they are a one stop grab it all for that letter.
Here is some of the Bb and Dd confusion activities I included.
Also keep in mind my newest unit called Christmas Time Part 1.
