Alligator CHOMP!

Alligator CHOMP! FREEBIE GAME

Alligator CHOMP

Here is an idea I came up with this week and my kids LOVED it. I call it Alligator CHOMP since we were learning about the letter Aa.

Alligator CHOMP freebie game

I made 5 numbered alligators and wrote ONE letter of a sight word on each. THEN, I hide them in the room like a write the room.

I gave each of my students their Alligator CHOMP! sheet and then find the alligators. When they did, they wrote down the letter next to the number on their sheets. In the end, they created a sight word. My word was white.

Freebie game that is open ended and so FUN.

My class went nuts over this. I will be doing it again and again. I created a FREE digital copy of this activity for you guys. I made it so you can play with 2, 3, 4, or 5-letter words. Click {here} to grab it. I love doing this activity the week we cover the letter A.

    1. My kinders DID use clipboards for this. I didn't copy so many onto a page because my kids write BIG this year. Just keep that mind before making copies. I love your idea though. Paper count can be an issue.

  2. I love this idea! My kids aren't ready to write words for write the room, so this is an excellent way to start. I just did one for bears, since that is my theme next week.
Love your blog and all your great ideas.

  3. I did this last year at the end of the year as part of our spelling "word work". They had to find the word, and then remember how to spell it, walk back to their table and write it. I found it to be perfect for my high energy kiddos.

  4. Hi Mary! I love all your ideas and visuals. : ) I recently purchased your making letters and numbers file from tpt but there is a problem… it has no letter or numbers on the pages! Please help, I'm anxious to start using them! I sent you an email right away, but please let me know if you did not receive it! Thanks so much!

  5. Love this! Will be doing it after I read the book "There's an Alligator under my bed" by Mercer Mayer. I always have the students write a book about something "their" alligator would eat – the boys traps the alligator by leaving a trail of food… This is an amazing and engaging way to carry it further! Thank you. Hope you will "share" that book with your class!

  6. Mary,

Great idea!! I can’t wait to try this. I’m always on the hunt for new ideas for sight words.
Thanks again. Hope your year is going great!! I’ve been using lots of your ideas from your workshop in Vegas!!
    Loved it!!
