Snow Globe Gifts

December 9, 2018 by Mary Amoson Leave a Comment

Snow Globe Gifts for Parents

This year I am making these cute snow globe gifts for my parents. Let me break down the steps to complete these if you would like to make some as well.

Snow Globe Ornament Parts

Grab What You Need for this Snow Globe Parent Gift

First, you will need a few things. A snow globe, a picture of each student, scissors, super glue, and fake snow. I found these snow globes at The Dollar Tree. You can grab some online here. I know Target Dollar Spot had some as well.

Prep a Student Picture

Next, you will need a picture. We took a picture of each student blowing snow. I knew the globe was not very tall, so we wanted pictures of them from their waist up.

Then, I uploaded their picture to a computer program. I made each of my pictures 2.6 inches tall. That was for the whole picture, even though I will be cutting them. You can leave your picture on sided. I chose to make the images on both sides. To do this, I places the first image in the center of the paper. Then I made another page the SAME and flipped the image. Lastly, I printed the page as a two sided image. (Because papers do not always feed EXACTLY correctly, sometimes I have to do this a few times to get it right.) Now, I trim the image around the student. If it is a good print and everything is centered… both sides look good. Sometimes I have to trim up the opposite side slightly.

I printed onto cardstock. 🙂

Add the picture to the inside of the snow globe parent gift.

Apply The Picture Inside the Snow Globe

When you have the picture you need, make sure it will fit inside the globe. Now, I bend the bottom of the picture so I can make it stand up. Apply super glue to this bend and place it on the inside plastic piece.

Another tip is to cut UP towards the picture just a bit and bend back one piece to the front and one piece to the back to glue and tape down.

Add Fake Snow

Since I printed my pictures with paper, I do not want to add water inside the globe. (YES, you can add water if you image is waterproof, but I am choosing not to add water.) Instead, I am adding fake snow. (This is the snow I am using, but you can use MANY different types. I am not using any snow with moisture.)

My fake snow is inside my classroom so I will be adding this tomorrow at school, then I will take a picture and show you what it will look like. My goal is to tip the globe upside down so the entrance in on top. Then, I will add the plastic piece with the student picture to the globe. Lastly, I will add the lid to close it up.

Add a ribbon and a simple tag... perfect parent gift for Christmas.

Add a Little Bit of Ribbon

The last piece of the project is a piece of ribbon for each child. We measured how tall each child is NOW and we cut the ribbon to that size. Now, we will tie the ribbon around the bottom of the ribbon as a detail.
