I used colorful sticks (not included in this download) to help organize my sound sticks. This helps when I ask my students to grab their sound from a pencil box or a gallon baggie. I will share my mindset with these, but feel free to do what works for you!
First, you can laminate your sound pieces and hot glue them to the sticks for durability.
Next, don’t give all your students all the sticks at one time. You can build up for take away from their “stash” as needed. This is about giving students access to sounds to work on, not overstimulating them!
When I have sticks passed out, I give my students words and they present the stick with that sound. We quickly review each sound. They show their sound stick and say their sound out loud. For example, when I give my students the bossy r pieces, students place the sticks in front of them so they can see the sounds. I would give them a word like a star. They pick up the sound they think is in the star and say the sound. We go over if they picked the right sound. We stay the sounds together and they put their stick down. We move on to another word.
Move fast and have fun!
