Keep reading for a FREEBIE!Easter causes all sorts of problems for me at school.
It is the holiday that can’t decide when it should come!
My Easter tub at school is PACKED
because sometimes Easter is early when we are working on addition.Sometimes Easter is late and we are working on subtraction.
because sometimes Easter is early when we are working on addition.Sometimes Easter is late and we are working on subtraction.
Sometimes Easter is right before Spring Break or
during Spring Break and we have to {almost} skip it.
Oiy… Easter… why can’t be you like Christmas, Saint Patrick’s Day, or Valentine’s Day
and stick to the SAME date each year?
I am lucky to have one week after Spring Break
to have some Easter FUN with my little wonderfuls…
to have some Easter FUN with my little wonderfuls…
So here are some of the There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick
activities we will be completing next week.
During our Daily 5 time, we will be using this reader.
My students have to read through the book and fill in the blanks.
Some little wonderfuls will sound out the words
while others may need the word wall for assistance.
Since there are pictures for the words on each page,
this process is pretty easy during the last part of the year.
When they are done fill in their books, they read it to me.
We also use this word wall and various writing prompts to write about the story.
We are working on writing three sentence about a topic
using capital letters to start the sentence and punctuation at the end.
We also play this reading comprehension game during our daily 5 time.
It is a class favorite each time we pull out a reading comprehension game.
I wonder if my students even know they are practicing
ALL their reading comprehension standards in the form of a game?
{Ummm… I am not telling them this is learning…
they just think it is FUN!
And shouldn’t learning BE fun?}
For listening to reading, we take a few days to listen to this book on CD.
But towards the end of the week, I change their listening station to this:
My students listen to me reading them step by step directions and they have to follow them.
The results? They color their sheet and practice their listening skills.
Because it is related to the book, my little loves think this is the
best
thing
ever.
They even compete with themselves to see who can color their picture the BEST.
{Yeah… There is no prize to win either!}
We also have the chance to work on sequencing skills and vocabulary with this sequencing sheet.
Is this hard?
Nope!
My students are more than capable to sequence and order things to 9.
Can they use resources to help them?
Sure!
I encourage effort first, then resources.
Some student pull out a reader or
the There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick for help.
They can also use these sequencing cards we order on our pocket chart during calendar to help.
Here is my There Was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Chick Literacy Unit.
Check it in this bundle.
And here is how you get your freebie file…

Thank you for sharing… I love it! This may be a silly question, but for your sequencing cut/glue activity, where do you put the lady. Some of my students put her first, because they said they need her before she can start swallowing things. Then I had some students who put her in the 7th spot- after the bow and before the bunny. Their reasoning is that she started to hop and jump before she met the Easter Bunny. Just wanted you opinion in this. 🙂
Where they choose! It doesn’t matter to me. 🙂
