One of My Favorite Weeks of School!

February 1, 2013 by Mary Amoson 1 Comment

Sometimes when I look at my curriculum map and see the next unit for the next week, I get SO excited. I mean… I really really really can’t wait!
This is is one of my most favorite curriculum weeks- Lights and Shadows. We learn so much and have so much FUN… which is what Kindergarten is all about! Here are some FUN ideas to help facilitate learning in your room.
I always recommend starting the week finding out what your students already know about the topic, so we created this is/can/has chart.
We chit chatted about what we thought about the light IS, light CAN, light HAS. The best part is- all the students ideas that are explained can be added.

As we discover and learn, we edit the chart. We take away items, elaborate, and even add some items.

We also learned about what light looks like! This is one of my most favorite moments of the whole year. ALL my kids think light is yellow, white, or like “fire.” We will out the left side of the paper first. THEN, the discover what light looks like and fill out the right side of the chart.
AMAZING!!!
We also did similar activities for Groundhog Day!
If you need to save some time, here are my pre-made units you check out.
