Thanksgiving fun; Turkeys, Pilgrim, Native Americans, Pumpkin Pie Fun?
Let’s get ready for an outstanding month of November with
engaging activities, meaningful lessons, and great hands teaching tools that will make you and your little learners smile!
I snapped a few pics to show you some of the things my class will be doing.
Word Families
We will be playing a “build a turkey” game using -at and -all words.
The words are on the feathers.
Each turkey has 8 words for it.
I place these at centers for my students to complete.
Here is an example of the baggie for each student.
Each baggie has two mats and 16 feathers in it.
(That is 8 feathers per turkey.)
I also have more turkey families.
Check out this pocket chart math station!
One way to play involves comparing numbers.
Can you see the layers?
My students get to add a number to either side to keep the statement true!
See the number 24 grapes.
So here they added a potato with the number 24?
And of course there is a printable to practice this skill.
We introduce these activities during calendar time and often play it together over a full week.
But, the real fun is at center time when my students chose to come to calendar
to play “teacher” with their friends.
we are getting SO good at comparing numbers,
that I like to step it up some.
I like to give them a number and the symbol,
then let them determine the remaining number…
perhaps a little bit of algebraic thinking?
Cover some of the numbers to see if students can fill in the missing number.
I also like to mark the back of a number with a star {written on with a draw erase marker.}
Then, I give my students number sense questions about that number to see who can figure it out.
I might give clues like it has two sets of 10 and 5 ones.
It is the same amount as a quarter. It is a count by 5 number.
Thanksgiving Fun Rhyming Game
or centers this upcoming week as well.
(Okay, we will most likely do it at both!)
I can’t wait to see my kids make the pies to match the rhyming words.
We will use the worksheet as a follow up activity as well.
Can you see the two differentiated ways to use the same sheet?
One way has the students coloring in the ten frame as they roll.
The second has students writing their numbers to fill the ten frame.
Number Mats
They are colorful and fun.
And your students simply LOVE writing on them.
Check out these workers!
MORE FUN
Student read the words around the outside…
and draw a line to what it matches on the inside.
Sometimes my student almost have to be FORCED to learn those number words!
So many times, little kinders just don’t want to read them!
This is a fun way to get them excited about reading and using them.
I also love using these mats to inspire writing!
Since color words and number words are simple ways to expand writing,
this mat can be a basis for some great writing topics.
And those outside words can be support!
I always like to have a printable or two ready…
because things happen.
(Sickness, bathroom accidents, student meltdowns)
It is just smart to have a set printed and ready to go for those cases.
Secret Code Words
This pack has a code breaker sheet,
18 code words using Thanksgiving Now and Then images and words,
and two worksheet options with the codes on the bottom of that sheet.
I just finished the Then and Now Thanksgiving Reader too!
Lastly, I made this reader only $1 and didn’t bundle it so everyone and anyone could grab it.

I love the computer links too! My kids run there as soon as they see the new ones!
Thanks for the computer links! I love these and it will be so much easier for my kids to get to.
Hi! I am a little computer challenged..so a question…If I put this on the screen on my computer, how do I get it on their screens? I can project it on the screen above their workstations, but is there a way to get it on the kid's work stations? OOO and a big thank you and it was lovely to meet your family! You are blessed! (and so are we! ) Thanks for sharing! Amy 🙂
You put this on your computers for center time. Then your students can go play these themed games on this computers.
How do you access the computer links? it is saying the page doesn't exist.
