a student of mine found TWO mice in my classroom.
One was caught on the sticky trap, which is awful.
Another was running around…
in the middle of the party…
with my kids and parents everywhere.
there is more.
then another and another and another.
The only victim was the first one stuck on the sticky trap.
And we never found the nest.
{It was Halloween and I had to get gone to get both girls home and ready for Halloween.}
And my heart rate was climbing and falling each time I saw and heard about the attack of the mice.
I was busy prepping for next week and I have some great stuff planned!
I am scared to enter my classroom,
but I will have to woman up and be brave since we will be learning about Veteran’s Day.
The students put the cards in ABC order then fill in the optional response sheet.
There are 4 to choose from and provide perfect differentiated levels.
I love to print these in color and place them in page protectors.
We uses these sheets at our Daily 5 station for writing.
This little wondersful says:
Veterans can fight for us.
Veterans have clothes, hats, and shoes.
Veterans serve us.
Then we color each square and label it with a military branch.
When they create it,
they will remember it.
Here is another math skill game that allows my students
to create double digits numbers using ten frames.
And of course I used different colored card stock to make the same game
for 4 different students at center time.
I also integrate technology using this AMAZING FUN
QR Scan & Learn
Veteran’s Day Book
We scan the codes.
LISTEN TO THE AUDIO file,
and follow along.
Then we complete the activity on the page.
Upside down… as they read it.
This is SO fun and SO engaging.
{Plus, if you want to impress you admin, ask them to observe you during this time.
Integrating subjects, using technology, and more.
It doesn’t get better than this.
Just test the QR Codes on your school’s wifi beforehand.}
I also created this Veteran’s Day reader.
I also created this Veteran’s Day word wall and writing sheets.
We will be doing these in small groups this upcoming week as well.
That would freak me out too. Today I had a gecko near my desk and I couldn't find where it went to hide.
Pray for me each time you hesitate as you travel near your desk tomorrow… hehe

Thank you for teaching about Veterans. I am a Veteran and my husband is currently deployed. Our son started kindergarten this year and his school is not doing anything for Veterans Day. I am therefore taking him out for the day so that he can go to a Veterans Day parade and we will spend the day reading books and making projects in honor of our veterans.
Good for You! I have a son in the army! ๐ anne
We have mice in school too – I HATE finding them in the glue traps. It is so heartbreaking (though I understand they are pests). What worked for my family at how were peppermint packets. They sell them at the hardware store specifically to deter mice. You need to use a few if you have a large classroom, and you need to replace them after awhile or the mice will come back and use the packets for nesting material! But they seem to really dislike the smell of peppermint. The good thing is, these packets are nontoxic! Very important around little hands and mouths.
GREAT tip for mice in school!
Your better than me. I hate mice. If I found them I would not have caught them and released them…I would have made sure they would not be making a return appearance in my room..yuk!! Love the veterans day activities. Thanks for the computer links page. My kiddos loved the Halloween one from last week, so I am sure this one will be just as great!

In my very first year of teaching, I had a very similar mouse experience! Ick! ๐
I love your work, by the way!
Your post gave me the heebie jeebies. I am terrified of the things and have 2 in the house recently (due to weather conditions and the open field close by). The one time I saw one I had to call my husband home from football practice while I sat upstairs on my bed.
We had mice in an old house we lived in that came over to visit because a tree was taken down across the street and they ran everywhere in the neighborhood. I barrowed a cat from my grandmother and then sat up all night listening to her crunch. Not a really good plan but it did work.
Thank you for this awesome Veteran's Day computer list! I am totally going to use it this week in the lab!
