Do you adore David Shannon as much as I do!?! After using the book No, David! to discuss titles and book covers, we used the sequel David Goes to School and David Gets in Trouble to discuss what happens at the beginning of a book.
David Goes to School
We recall the story, David Goes to School, and we write what we remember that happened in the beginning. We also practiced drawing our illustrations like David Shannon, using LOTS of colors, filling the pages with illustrations, and matching the image to the words we write.
Here is another example of some AMAZING writings and illustrations.
David Gets in Trouble
The next day we used the book David Gets in Trouble. We use this book to discuss more than the beginning of the book, by expanding the parts of the story to the Beginning, Middle, and End.
Reading Comprehension Games
Of course, both of these books come with their own reading comprehension game with questions and answer keys. Have no fear… more David Shannon is coming! And don’t forget to check out my previous David Shannon Author Study post.
