Chapter 5 of D5

July 5, 2012 by Mary Amoson Leave a Comment

How much fun has this Daily 5 book study been? I am loving it.
I am so glad Tammy put this together.
This week, we are doing a split shift. I am taking care “Read to Someone” and Marsha from
is doing “Listening to Reading.”
Reading to Someone or Partner reading is NOT new. In fact, I did this often before I heard about D5. Typically, it is more fun to read with someone else than it is to read by themselves. My students LOVE to read with others.
I love how the book breaks down how to teach students to Read to Someone. If you take it step by step, I know you will be successful with this.
These are the questions in my brain was thinking about while reading this chapter and after using the D5 Framework this past year.
1. Why should students be reading to someone?
(What is the purpose for reading to someone that each student should know and understand?)
2. How can your students’ EEKK?
(on bottoms only or laying out on bellies/backs, what is okay with you?)
3. How can your students read to someone and how can you need to model these ways with your students?
4. What is the one thing you have done with partner reading that ensures the success of your students?
To remind my students of the correct and expected behaviors during read to self and read to someone, I created these bookmarks.

I have some GREAT ideas to share with you on how I do Reading to Someone as well as how I do Listening to Reading! Stay tuned for the link up!
