100 Days HOORAY

January 30, 2014 by Mary Amoson 3 Comments

Ideas for the 100th Day of School
Here is good ‘ol GA we celebrated the 100th day of school last week.
{I know this sounds early for so many other states and systems, but there ya go!}
My little loves had a blast with the number 100.
Here is how we rolled…
I had this idea to take a ton of old and expired coupons and
have my students identify the number 100 and cut it out.
They could cut out the coupon or just the number 100, whichever they chose.
This was an idea I had brewing in my head for a while,
but I wasn’t sure how execution was going to proceed.
Let’s face it, you never know with Kinders!
This activity was amazing… fun…
engaging… and messy!
 Essentially, this was AWESOME.
Here is how we did this activity:
I asked each kid to grab some scissors and meet me on the carpet.
We put the coupons in the middle of the circle.
I asked my class to find the number 100 in the coupons, cut it out, and hold onto it.
I told them they could collect as many as they could find.
Then I set them loose.
There was a good 20 minutes of great active learning.
Kids were looking for the 100-
searching, cutting, talking, laughing, and cutting some more.
Yes, we had a huge coupon mess all over the floor that took under 2 minutes to clean up.
I honestly can’t wait to do this activity again.
In fact, I may have to do this for the 50th day of school as well.
It was easy to prep and so much fun!
In the past, I worked so hard to create 100th Day activities,
but then our stupendous Media Specialist, Jo, turned the media center
into an extravagant 100th Day celebration.
Not only did she make the library more fun than ever,
she took away some of that responsibility from me.
{I know what sounds bad, but I hope it makes sense to you guys.}
I am so thankful that I was able to attend the 100th Day
in the library and enjoy it with my students.
Here is Jo with her AgingBooth App.
She showed herself at 100 years old AND took a picture and aged each student.
How much fun is this!
Here are some of the activities we completed in the media center:
We had a contest to see who could write their name the most in 100 seconds.
We also completed these 100 days puzzles that practiced counting by 10s.
And who doesn’t love creating things with 100 cups?
I haven’t met a kinder yet who can resist.
And decorating bookmarks is always fun… esp when markers are involved.
I hope this gives you guys some fun 100th day ideas.

Great ideas for Day 100! Thanks for sharing! We celebrate next week! How's the weather in GA?
A question about the "snap words" – did you buy the original kit from the company or did you print off from TPT? Just wondering which to invest. Do you think the cards have helped?
    Thanks,
    Maryann

Still wet and icy… snow day 4 is tomorrow!
I did buy the sets from the website bc they didn't have a TpT 2 years ago. The cards from the site hold up very well and I am pleased with the purchase. I laminated them and they still look awesome. I am not sure how it works with TpT. I know the cards helped… I would never support anything I didn't love to pieces. And I personally bought the cards myself at full price. hehe
